Alpine Ski 2007/2008
Big Mountain

This group contains skis our test team considered the best at skiing any mountain, anywhere, anytime, at varying speeds. They all have big profiles of at least 80mm to 98 mm waists, but allow skiers to handle most terrain they will run into with confidence. You will find different ability levels in this category so don't be shy if you are a good average skier to try a couple of these models. Some of their constructions come from the race room or are totally new modern all mountain skis that will handle groomed runs well but really shine in the deep stuff. These skis are great for the skiers who know they will have a lot of snow or who spend most of their time searching the mountain for the best stash of snow. There are bigger, fatter skis available which we will special order if you would like.

Nordica Enforcer footprint - 135-98-125

Vertical Drop Staff: A 98mm user friendly side-cut under foot dominates absolutely any type of terrain. Whether you ski powder, crud, groomers, or the park, the super versatile Enforcer will crush them all and make you look good doing it. The ski still also has new school twin tip performance and a wood core sidewall construction. The ski is flat so you have your choice of binding.

K2 Seth footprint - 130-98-118

Vertical Drop Staff: The most versatile ski in the Factory Series was designed by Seth Morrison as a single tool to attack any condition the mountain offers. The 98 mm waist width, progressive sidecut and mini rocker design gives it advantages in the soft snow, but the generous sidecut in the tip and all mountain flex make it ideal for the groomers. The Seth’s have a twin tip configuration. The ski is flat so you have your choice of binding.

Volkl Mantra footprint - 133-96-116

Vertical Drop Staff: The Mantra is back with a new shape, 2mm wider. The new shape gives the ski a bit more float in the super deep but still maintains it’s solid, bomber feel on the front of the mountain. The Mantra is still the favorite of our tester from Montana. The ski is flat so you have your choice of binding.

Dynastar Mythic Rider footprint - 122-88-110

Vertical Drop Staff: This is the ideal ski to go skiing every day in the western mountains or ant where you choose to ski on big mountains. The little brother of the Pro Rider, the Mythic Rider is a ski with character designed for excellent skiers looking for a versatile, high performance ski. It is happy on all types of terrain and will deliver great performance whatever the snow conditions. We found this ski to have above average groomed slope capabilities but still floated with the rest of them. In stock with the Dynastar Fluid system and PX 12 bindings.

Fischer Watea 84 footprint - 126-84-112

Vertical Drop Staff: The shape of the Watea 84 kicks it straight through the uprights anywhere it is unleashed. East to West this ski grips when you need it and floats when you want it. Carbon I-Beam construction reduces weight and increases stability. This ski is a dream in all conditions. The sidewall construction gives it great feel on the grooms. The weight could make this an ideal ski for AT gear. We are offering this with a Fischer/Tyrolia FX12 binding but can be purchased flat.

Nordica Jet Fuel footprint - 126-84-112

Vertical Drop Staff: Made for expert all-mountain skiers, the Jet Fuel will propel you through crud or powder with little effort, but still hold a tough edge on the hard packed groomers. The construction is a wood core, aluminum laminate for all the power you would ever want. The ski is sold with the Nordica XBS binding system and the N312 binding. This system gives you the best chance for recovering from off balance situations.

Volkl AC 40 Carbon footprint - 125-82-110

Vertical Drop Staff: For good skiers who want to ski every possible condition the mountain can dish out. The new AC 40 has a layer of carbon rather than the metal of the past which we feel has made the ski much more versatile. This combined with extended double grip and extended sensorwood core have made this a dream ski in all conditions. Sold with the Motion iPT binding system, which gives very precise edge grip and extra stability at speeds without taking you away from the feel of the snow.

Elan Magfire 14 footprint - 126-82-109

Vertical Drop Staff: The Magfire 14 is a new addition to the series for 0708, and is aimed at skiers of advanced to expert ability. Boasting Elan’s celebrated WaveFlex Technology, this ski delivers even better carving performance in long and short turns, and handles every kind of terrain and snow conditions that come its way. The ski comes with the Fusion binding system. This integrated system gives you all the feel the ski was designed to have with no flex stoppage.

Nordica Afterburner footprint - 125-84-112

Vertical Drop Staff: The AFTERBURNER is made for confident all-mountain skiers. It feels effortless in powder or crud and will hold a solid edge on groomers. The construction is a wood core with no metal to give you a much easier ski to feel at normal speeds. The ski is also exceptional in the bumps. The ski is sold with the Nordica XBS binding system and the N312 binding. This system gives you the best chance for recovering from off balance situations.
